Even though the thermostat is new doesn't mean it works or could it be put in upside down. Pull it, put in a pan of water, bring to a boil & see if it opens.

i can hear the thermo opening and closing and i dont think i put it upside down the point goes towards the front of the engine and the flat part towards the engine
