I read somewhere to either run an oil cooler or a high volume oil pump...not both, but it did not really explain why. I can only guess that it makes the pump push oil through all the hoses and strains it? The engine I bought came with a high vol. pump. It has been in for around 11 years and has around 5000 miles. About a year ago, I installed an oil cooler because I thought it would help, but I don't know if it is doing any good and I don't want to cause any damage if indeed having both is not good. Can anyone explain why not to run both? I don't drive it very much so if the oiler cooler is better off, then I will do so.

It is an old ford police oil cooler, not sure of the model number

is it the kind that screws on before the oil filter?

personally on street strip cars I'd run a standard volume pump as for the oil cooler, that's your preference
