Default fuel gauge not working

The fuel gauge on my 90 gt is not working never has since I got it. Is there anything that it could be (like something easy) other than pulling the tank and changing the sending unit. And if I do have to change the sending unit how hard is that, does the fuel pump come out with it are is it in a separate place.

mine stays full if there is a few gallons in. once it starts getting empty the gauge drops to almost empty. lol it kinda works as a low fuel warning then a few gauge, but it atleast lets me know when i'm getting empty. i was concerned about it at first but after driving it for a while like that, it works fine for me for now at least to know that its getting empty.

Mine was staying on E all the time so I replaced both only because I had to drop the tank anyway.
