Default Initial startup and break in

I have a '94 GT and i just installed a 306 (slightly used and purchased from a friend) and brand new AFR heads w/ a brand new custom ground cam. everything else is pretty much brand new.

The bottom end has been properly broken in and has approx 10K on it.

Do i need to follow any special "break in" procedures even though the rings have been seated?

Should I still put oil in it and run it for 500-700 miles then change it?

I have a 7quart Canton oil pan and 7quarts of Royal Purple. I just didnt want to waste the Royal purple and only have it in for 500 - 500 miles.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob

Get rid of the Royal Purple, that stuff is garbage. The only oils I'd recommend anyone run are Mobil 1, Redline, Amsoil or Torco. And modern engines are broken in within 50 miles. It's a good idea to run a mineral oil at first just to make sure it has no leaks or doesn't burn oil, before you spend money on a synthetic, but not necessary. If you have any problems they'll show up in a hurry, and since you already have 10k on the bottom end, you should be fine.

i would not call royal purple garbage. I've heard horror stories about it but you get that from every brand. shouldn't be any break in for ya, roller cams don't require a break in so you should be good.

I believe new cams need a special break in procedure.

Only flat tappet cams. Roller cams are a 0 wear component and require no break-in.
