GT 40 Heads $100 Off 97 Ex. Should I Buy Heavy Pics?!
Ok so i have been reading on here about GT40 heads, and today i had nothing to do, so i went out with my little list of casting numbers and i was going to see if i could find a pair.
2 junk yards and about 25 first gen explorers later. I found a 5.0L !
Opened it up! Had the 5.0L, with no intake. ( dam eh? ) So i checked the heads, and it had the four bumps at the front on the driver side.
So questions, if someone is smart enough to jack the intake why not take the heads too?
From the pictures, do you see anything wrong with these?
I plan on boiling them to get rid of the rust and such.
I looked under the oil cap, there was oil! Im hoping there in good condition.
Most of these pics your gonig to be like wtf? Dont chirp the quality it was the cell phone haha.
Any input is greatly appriciated.
I dont know if im going to put these on my stock 5.0 with 230k KM's on it with a new cam, or just keep them for a complete rebuild. I plan on geting them boiled and re seated and all that fun stuff. I know a guy that will reseat them for 100 bucks.
If everythings a go, and i pull them out tomorrow, ill check for cracks and such, i realise theres only so much you can tell from sketch pics.

Also, the vechiles dash is completely apart, same with a few of the fenders, i am not sure why its in the junkyard.... No visible extreme damage, apparently its been there for over a year...
Its deffs a 97. I checked the door jam, the doors aren't on the car haha.
The first pic is the worst port imo which you can see in the second pick at the top left!

Also!! The intake gaskets are still on both heads, so good sign there! and the hood was still on the vehicle closed ( been sitting for a year, not much water entrance. No idea how long the intakes been gone. )

probably had transmission problems... Those heads look pretty beat. The cheaper they are the better. Don't make any assumptions until you can get them off the engine. see if any of the valves are chipped or bent (still open after you remove the rockers)
also, the person who scooped the intake wasnt "not smart enough" the probably knew that they are P heads and didnt want to deal with the header BS
