Default What kind of oil fluid is needed for standard on a 1988

I have a slow leak on my transmission. I need to fill the transmission with more fluid before it causes damage. I was told GL-4 is good, but i want to make sure.

thanks

My tranny is filled with what looks and smells like gear oil...guess I'll be draining that sucker and refilling it with the correct fluid.

Even though ATF is the correct fluid. Your leak will probably get worse with the swap.

Fix the leak.

you're absolutely right Jfsram. Last night i just figured out my leak was coming from my drivers side valve cover and the oil ran underneath the trans because of the forward motion while driving. The leak was happening near the clutch and it just came to me yesterday that the clutch does not have oil. But thanks for the info. At least I have the information for when I want to change my trans oil.
