Default Key lock cylinder or ignition switch??

When i bought my car, the ignition came wired to a button. So to turn on the car, i'd insert the key, turn it, then push the button to turn the car on.

Lately, though, that button has been malfunctioning (Getting STUCK!). To make a long story short, it got stuck ON on the highway and ruined my starter... hopefully not my flywheel too.

I want to fix whatever is broken and remove the button/switch entirely. Now, is the button a ghetto fix to a broken key lock cylinder or an ignition switch? I want to replace either one or both if they're the culprit. Let me know guys, thanks!

Could be both. You gotta trace where it leads to. Chances are its wired to the ignition switch because of a bad tumbler. Then again it could be wired straight to the solenoid because of a bad switch.

I see. I looked at both parts at a nearby autoparts store. both aren't over $25. Changing the cylinder wont mean i'll need a new set of keys, right?

The cylinder will come with 2 new keys, but you could bring it to a locksmith and have him redo it for the key you already have.

alright, so i put the new key lock cylinder in no problem, but as i was disconnecting the switch i noticed a few things.

there's a wire running from the solenoid to the switch, and the other wire of the switch running to the ignition switch. its spliced with the black wire with a green stripe.

my question is, the wire coming from the solenoid, where does it have to go? gonna look up some wiring diagrams in a bit.

i also didnt replace the ignition switch yet. i have to get those security torx bits when i get a chance.

Okay can anyone verify what I've come across.

Starter solenoid wire (that turns the car on) goes to the Clutch pedal position switch (Manual tranny). from there it goes to the White/Pink wire into the Ignition Switch? hope that's right! gonna go give it a shot.

what an electrical mess I have! ARGH. frustrating POS. I tried running the wire from the solenoid to the white/pink wire into the ignition switch and nothing happens when i crank the key. On the Run position though, if i touch the wire to any others, it cranks, bypassing the clutch sensor and all. I am stumped! Any help is appreciated, please! I have pictures i took.

The previous owner just cut and crimped other wires together, its a splice fest. I have atleast 2 plugs just hanging there with no ports for them. sigh

1st pic : according to wiring diagrams, this is the wire i need to splice with the solenoid wire. (near my finger, white and pink)

2nd pic: The red and blue wire coming from the clutch pedal switch is supposed to become the white/pink wire at some point.

3rd pic: random plug just hanging there
