i got this new high torque starter from jegs, and its only got a screw for the positive wire coming from the battery. my other starter had a screw for the positive wire and a seperate wire for the solenoid screw. i talked to a tech at jegs and he said that the (smaller wire) solenoid wire was simply a ground on the starter and i could attach it to the screw on the outside of the starter (on the left side of the picture)



is that right or does he not know what he's talking about and i have the wrong starter

btw, if you want a picture of the other starter i can get that for you

if this starter is for your 94gt then its the wrong starter, it should be much smaller (and lighter) with a solenoid mounted on the starter itself. with a big post for the power wire and a smaller terminal for the signal wire.

thats what i was thinking. this is my old starter



the thing is that a different jegs rep said this would work on my car and their website says its good for a 302. how do i make sure i dont get the wrong part again. im in school and this is my only car (i know its not smart to mod a dd for the record), so getting it running asap is kinda high priority

i personally run a stock 91 mustang 302 starter on my 10-1 compression cleveland with zero issues even with huge large tube headers. the 91 starter is a mini starter just like your supposed to have. and its probably cheaper to boot! the 91 starter will drop right in and all the connections will be the same. the 1st starter is an older design i believe they used the brick style up to 90 the changed to the smaller starter. which uses less power and is wayyy lighter and will still crank over a high compression motor.

^^ Like he said. In 90 or 91 ford switched to the high torque mini's.

More than enough cranking power for your application.

thats the wrong starter for your car... get a 94-95 starter

Yep, I converted my 88 to the later model starter. Got one at my local Pull-a-part for $10. Cranks much better than the 1960's design that came on the car. (like the one you just got new).

my sig actually isnt updated, now ive got a 347 stroker. found a crazy good deal on a block with some ported race heads and forged internals and what not. idk what im putting down, i havent gotten it tuned yet. would a stock 91 starter still work for my application?

and, i was thinking about just getting this starter since im already dealing with jegs and i really dont want this problem to resurface
