help...gas smell found in motor oil dipstick?
Im in the process of purchasing an 85 mustang 5.0 project. So Im looking at the car and look at the oil and it smells like gas. Is this car worth purchasing? Whats causing the gas being mixed into the motor oil?

Hi,
That could becaused by misfires or worn rings. I would take a vacuum gauge with you and check the engine vacuum at idle as well as checking to see how quick it returns to idle on the gauge after you rev the engine. If it is slow to return to idle on your vacuum gauge, its a sign the rings are worn. If the gauge needle bounces around, that could be caused by open valves and so forth.
I would also recomend taking a scan tool with you.
Hope this helps.

is the oil level way overfull??? reason I ask is if the car got flooded at some point gas would of got past the rings and into the crank case, if it's carbed and car has sat, the floats could be stuck, needle stuck, excess fuel pressure ect ect......
