I’ll assume that when you say you think all I need is 2 lines that you’re referring to the 2 lines from the heater tubes
to the actual heater core tubes
?
If you hook those 2 lines up and find out your heater core is "not leaking" (again I’ll assume that was the reason the 2 hoses aren’t hooked up to the heater core was because there was a leak in the heater core) then I start looking for potential vacuum leaks.
From the large vacuum T on the driver’s side on the firewall
you should have a vacuum line that goes to a check valve near the passenger side hood hinge
,
the bottom line goes into the inside and behind the heater and the other line goes to a vacuum reservoir under the passenger side fender
.
Make sure these lines are not cracked and operational. From there it’s a process of checking all the vacuum line to make sure everything is hooked up to the different vacuum motors.
Hopefully this helps?

If the heater core has been disconnected, I am betting it is going to leak if you hook it back up. That is the quick easy fix for a leaking heater core is to disconnect it. They can be really a chore to replace, and I have only replaced one and that was in a Ford Fairmont. It was an all day job nearly as the dash had to come out. If you hook it up, keep a very close eye on your coolant level, and watch for leaks. You can likely smell the anti freeze leaking inside the passenger compartment. Good luck.

Usually the first indication of a leaky heater core is the smell of anti-freeze, or when your front window fogs up followed by water/anti -freeze on the carpet.
That usually seems to be followed by anti-freeze leaking through the plastic pipe in the engine bay.
