budget build 302 to 347 stroker
#41
For the guy that started this topic, the poster.
1) Stroker kit from CHP, $1060
2) Quality machine work $730
3) Balance job, rotating assy $175 (that's a part they can't do without you balancer/flexplate or flywheel
4) Timing chain/gear set $ 75
5) Camshaft, lifters $ 300
At this point the $2000 budget is shot. Haven't got anythihg for heads, intake or ignition system. In fact no oil pump either.
Better just save some money somemore....

As a guy who runs an e7/e303/gt40 combo on a 347 and had to have it rebuilt a month after it was freshly built due to a faulty bbk fuel pressure regulator, take it from me, your motor is the last place you want to cheap out on. Quality costs money, but then again not as much as having to build a second motor. That is why I will be putting the edelbrock performer heads and e-fan on that are sitting in my room asap. I won't be making the most power possible, but I have heard nothing but positive things about structural integrity and years of satisfied users, also I will be WELL over 300whp and still pass Ca smog just fine. If money is an issue like it is for me, keep your 302 and just run a nice h/c/i. You will probably make more power than I currently do and be more reliable..
