Default 3G alt Problem at around 4500rpm

I just receintly did a 3g alt conversion on my 90 gt. It has been on the car for a few weeks. When i am around 4000-4500 rpm range the battery light is kicked on and the lights seem to dim a little. Any ideas on why? Am going to hook a volt meter up later tomorrow and see waht is happening to the voltage at the rpm range i am having problems with.

the alt had a year warranty. Today i held it at 4500 to see what would happen and the alt got smoked. I determined it was a problem with the pully i was using. It was the stock pulley off the factory alt. Must have spun it to fast and blew it. GOt another under warranty and left the new pully on it and it is now good.
