Default how hot is too hot?

right now in city driving my car gets up to around 185 or so, and in the summer gets a little over 200 almost 210. a little higher when I'm on the gas more. So at what point should you pull over and let it cool some? I've still got a stock radiator and my fan took a **** last year so I just got one of those cheapy ebay fans. I think I might order another one and run 2 of them to be safer, what do you guys think?

btw if it matters I've got a 180 tstat.

you need a bigger radiator.........I don't like to run a car past 225 degrees, 230 max, because in these ranges I know it almost never causes damage, hotter than that and it's a gamble

you DONT need a larger radiator... my OEM rad keeps my 347 cool just fine. check your coolant mix, in the summer I usually run a 60/40 water/coolant mix. helps keep it cooler.

and get an OEM fan... most aftermarket fans are garbage

How hot is too hot. In your case anything over 180. If you have a 180 thermostat and your temperature runs above 180. Your thermostat is no longer regulating. It's wide open and there's nothing left.

There are a couple MINOR exceptions to this rule. If you have an electric fan and it's programmed to come on at 200. There is that time between 180 and 200 that you can be over 180. All other times a good running cooling system should be regulating at the thermostat's temperature.

If you are running over your temp on the highway. I'd start with the radiator. I'm not against buying a super huge, expensive radiator but the fact is. Many members do it for the wrong reasons. They have a 20 year old plugged up radiator and feel a high performance, big and expensive radiator is the answer when a new one from Autozone or even having the old one redone would suffice.

on the highway or on a long nice road my car stays around 160. I think I'm just going to follow adder's suggestion and get another stock fan.

With a 180* T stat and OEM radiator I run at 160* on the highway. Traffic is around 190 because my fan is mechanical...

Unless you go expensive with an elec fan you can't beat the good stockers such as the Mark VIII or the Taurus.
