i was at the trannsmission shop today to get my car and the guy who owns the shop told me he had a early 80's mustang 5.0 for salle that has a 4 speed in it...... i have a auto so im always lookin for trannies to swap for it.....i didnt know they made a 4 speed in those years and he also says they are stronger and just plain better than the 5 speeds....is this all true?

early 80s 4 speeds where called SROD they where a 3 speed with 4th gear being overdrive 3 gear was 1to1 such as 4th in the 5 speeds or 3rd in the AOD.now if it was a 60s or early 70s 4 speed then he would have somthing the 80s 4 speed in the stangs where just plain junk.stay away from them.

he was just probabbly tring to sell it to you cause you didnt really know and he's probabbly tring to get rid of it cause no one else will buy it but it does mean that he cant build a trans just means hes some what of a crook

hes full of crap. the SROD was a junk tranny. thats one reason it was replaced. now if he has an old TOP LOADER then i would probably consider it

also whats wrong with an auto

nothin wrongs with an auto ive just been drivin my freinds gti the last couple days and a 5 speed is so fun but i like my auto so idk what im gonna do

sticks are cool to drive but an auto can just be as fun and better for racing. no miss shifts, not over revved motors. get a stall a good VB and youll see the difference

Yup, Quik sold me a shift kit and it made a whole WORLD of a difference of the performance of the AOD.
