relation between solenoid, starter, and rectifier
recently my car has been unwilling to start. it's random though.
the battery is fine. i go to start the engine and all i get is a click.
the AAA guy said it's the starter... i'm not sure yet.
yesterday after push starting it, i was just idling for a while and noticed the voltage gage jumping around. i hooked up my multimeter and was getting 1.5V AC. which normally means the rectifier is shot, right?
after getting home i stopped the engine and tried starting it again, no luck. after a few tries i held the ignition in the start position for a few seconds and it started like nothing was wrong.
i checked the voltage again: this time only 30-40 mV AC.
has anybody experienced this before? i can't figure out how the starter would affect the rectifier.
thanks!

the rectifier has nothing to do with your problem starting, when it won't start grab a test light and check the feed wire to the selonoid and holding the key in the crank position see if the test light lites up.....if so move the test light over to the wire going to the starter, if it doesn't light = bad selonoid , if it lights up = bad starter

thanks! i just replaced the solenoid... i figured it wouldn't hurt.
if it won't start again i'll check that. by "check the feed wire" do you mean the small push on wire (i'm assuming it comes from the ignition switch)?
i appreciate the feedback!
