Ignition mods?

Ignition mods?
The last time I messed with a 5.0 build up was ten years ago. Back then the best mods for ignition were an MSD-6AL box, an MSD blaster coil, Bosch Platinum plugs, and of course plenty of timing advance. The car is an '89 convertible, although I don't have it yet.
I thought I had sold my current car but the "buyer" tried to scam me with a fake cashier's check. I'm still trying to lure him out to "pick up the car" so I can have my buddies at the Sheriff's Dept. waiting in the wings to bag his sorry ***. So the owner of that car is patiently waiting for me to get another buyer for my existing car so I can pay for the 'vert. Argh!
Sigh... but anyway, what advances in ignition mods have been made since ten years ago? What ignition combination is ideal for a street car emphasizing midrange torque and using the stock redline?

RE: Ignition mods?
Stay away from MSD they suck......My tuner wont even tune your car with anything MSD on it I had it.I had a msd and my dyno graph was all jagged in the power range we removed the msd and went stock and the curve was nice and straight now....He swears that msd sucks and i believe it after seeing the difference on paper!I now have a crane box and its mint
