Default Good deal??

A guy around here is selling a 1991 GT, 5 Speed, 88k on the clock. He's asking $3500 for it. Does this sound like a good deal or is it overpriced. What would a stock, manual GT run in the 1/4?

Depends on the condition of the car. I've seen beaters go for $1600 or pristene examples go for close to $10k. Personally I paid $3k for my 91GT vert, but it needs lots of TLC.

I paid $3800 for my 1992 Mustang GT, and it has served me well. Well, until now the transmission failed, but it failed at around 160,000 miles, which some people tell me is pretty normal for the automatic. The manual should last much longer. The manual transmission I have in the car now is off a 1993 Cobra, and it runs really good.

Anyway, $3500 sounds like a fair price, but beware the 88k on the clock, it could be 188k, since Ford didn't seem to think their Mustang could make it over 100k miles, lol, boy were they wrong, people are driving around old 'stangs with over 300,000 miles on them, lol.

Anyway, drive it around, check for signs of "temperary fixes."

Check the charge of the radiator, check the temperature after some driving, check the a/c. Try out all of the gears, try out the brakes, try out the cruise control, power mirror and locks, etc.

Basically, try to see how well the car has been maintained. If all checks out ok to your opinion a 14 year old car with 88k or more miles on it should have, then I think $3.5k is fair...

But try to haggle the price down a bit anyway, like see if he'll go down to $3200, and then see if he'll be willing to write down on the title transfer that it was a gift so it'll save you the taxes involved in registering it, lol.

Man, a dealership by where I live was selling a 1990, or 1992, I forgot, for $13k!!!

But boy it was in perfect condition, let me tell you, looks like Ford forgot to roll this one out and it's still brand new, lol.

In fact, another dealer was selling a BRAND NEW 5.0L fox Mustang. Seriously, with only like 60-100 miles on it. They say it was a showroom car for most of it's life, then was kept in a garage, and now they are selling it, lol, never had an owner, can you believe that? I forgot the price though...
