Alright guys, I'm looking to crowd source this one out. The battery on my car car went dead, tried to charge/jump it and it would not charge. The battery was new so I took it back and they told me that the polarity had been reversed, warrantied it and gave me another one. I put the new battery in and it worked for a while, but it went dead again. So I tried to jump it with my truck and the damn battery started smoking out of the negative terminal on my truck and the mustang. I took the cables off and they were scalding. I'll bet money that when I take the new battery back in they're going to tell me that the polarity has been reversed again.

I know for a fact that the battery was never charged backwards, I double check that any time I hook it up.

Any idea what might be going on?

have you done anything to your car recently.

burned cable that is touching the chassis and not shorting out.?

Really the only way to reverse polarity on a lead battery is a very abrupt, forceful discharge. Possible alternator/volt regulator issues.
