Likely a symptom of not having the extra drag of the seizing smog pump to drag it down. The pump was probly creating a lot of extra drag on the engine before it froze up, the ecu probly had to compensate for this added drag to keep an idle , give it a bit of time the adaptive learning will kick in eventually.

As a side note, can anyone recommend a good tech article on removing the smog pump? No sense in dragging that extra weight around everywhere

I just removed mine after bypassing it unbolt remove cut and plug the tubes going to the cats and heads. pretty simple . Mine was still in good working order when I took it off so I sold it on ebay for 50 bucks lol . I used a couple large bolts in the tubes with some loc tite and force threaded them in.

nope no welding involved just plug the vacuum lines and the 2 tubes that go to the cats and heads . Other pple have used a bolt in the back of the heads and removed the tubes all together, I didn't feel like trying to find the correct size bolt so I just plugged them.

lol if someone took them off before you then they either connected them to the H pipe or just plugged it up, my H pipe had a tube on it that I plugged off. Before I got the new H pipe on the car it had the stock H with the cats, when I removed the cats I removed that tube as well . The new H I just plugged the tube
