lexan needed for fiberglass hatch?
i got a cervini fiberglass hatch and i am getting mixed answers about whether i need lexan instead of the stock glass window. also will the struts be ok to use? it feels sturdy but ive seen some people say it can be a problem.

You need to check to see if your state has DOT requirements for glass and such, that means that any type of glass or plastic used on the exterior of the passenger compartment (including tailights, headlights, etc) has to be DOT approved and have certain safety standards for antishatter and other physical characteristics before it's used on the car, otherwise, if your state has inspections or you go to sell the car accross state lines it may not pass inspection.
Also, if you get in an accident and are injured by the part, Insurance may not cover you.
Edit: Since you're in NJ i'm pretty sure they have DOT requirements. Check with local PD or a State Troopers office for the low-down.

ive decided to go lexan which should pass DOT and already took the struts off because the hatch made creeking noises when i tried to close it with them on(figured i could go without them.) how about a spoiler though? the hatch was about 3x lighter when i took the spoiler off the hatch. so should i avoid using such a heavy spoiler?

I have serious doubt that lexan is DOT approved. I have seen the glass hatch with all of the above parts on them dont know if the owner had issues down the road or if all was ok. As far as weight a mustang can use all it can get in the rear also. Call Cervini and ask them would be your best bet they made it.
