Smile 95 gt need more speed

I just bought a 1995 Mustang Gt 5.0 5 Speed. I am looking for some inexpensive stuff to do to give myself some more HP. When i bought it, it already had a few things done to it...

Bbk Headers Cat-back and H pipe
Bbk Cap, Rotor and Wires
Sreamin' Demon Coil pk
Cold Air Intake

Just looking for some advice on what to do to make it a little bit faster without breaking the bank

Bump your timing a bit if it is still stock at 10 Degrees before tdc you can easily bump it to 12 or 14 using some higher octane fuel at the pumps like 93 octane. After that man I hate to say it but the next best thing to do is get rid of the 3.08 rear gears and go to a 3.73 gear ratio. Cheap ???? that's questionable If you can do the labor yourself and pay only for parts it will run you between 150 200 bucks in parts to do the rear gears , that is if you know what you are doing if not leave it to someone who does know. Simple bolt ons such as the upper intake going to a gt40 upper intake nets a few pony's and if you do the gt40 heads and intake together even more.

Just remember Horse Power costs money .............

I did bump up my timing a lil bit its at about 12 right now. I usually run 91 but can go to 93. I was looking into changing the intake so will def look into that. Didnt think about changing the rear gears at all. Ive changed others rear ends but they were direct replacement gears anything special I would need to do to change the rear from 3.08 to 3.73? What exactly will it do for me?

Changing your rear gears from the stock 3.08 to a set of 3.73 gears will really wake that car up, Basically they will create a lot more torque at the same HP . Faster launches , more power in the lower rpm range, and the shift points are quicker and closer together.

You cant go wrong if your first mod to that is to swap out the gears.
There is an install kit that you can buy with the gears in most cases , it includes seals and various other things you need to properly install the gears. Some where I have a write up on the whole procedure Ill have to dig around my hard drive and see if I can come up with it.

OK Thanks for the info I will def look into it now. I was looking at the gears stock is 3.08. There is also the 3.55, 3.73, and the 4.10. So you would suggest 3.73 for the best of both speed and accel. What about the 4.10 or are those more for racing?

Gear choice is a personal preference , and is a WIDLEY debated category on this forum. I use 3.73 , but any of those are good choices. The 4.10 set is a bit steep for me on the 5 speed but great in an auto.

After I did the gear swap in my 94 I could really feel a difference in the seat as to how the car pulled plus I was able to really get a good tire squawk going into 2nd gear ( with out power shifting ) . Once I did the long tube headers off road H and the gt40 upper/lower intake the car will get side ways going into 2nd gear if im not careful.

I understand that people have thier preference in gear choice. From other things ive read the 3.73 gear sound like a good choice to start with. Thanks for all the info im def going to start with the intake and rear end. Then ill figure out were im going to go from there.

If you change the gearing in the rear, don't forget to change the speedo drive gear in the tranny or else your speedo will not register correctly
