Default Battery/Ground problems

Hey guys,
So I finally was about to get the 90 mustang out after it sitting all summer and I went to hook up the battery. Put the negative/ground cable on the battery and then went to put the positive end on the terminal and the post started sparking and actually was going to melt if I did not pull it back. I put the 130 amp alternator in since last summer, so as far as wiring that is what I have touched. I looked over my wiring and did exactly what the directions and a video made from latemodelrestoration told me to do. I am not quite sure where to start so any help would be appreciated. I am not good with checking electrical components so instructions would be great!
Thanks everyone, and I was so excited to drive it finally.

You should always put the positive on first and the negative on second to avoid arcing and other issues.

Did you clean the battery terminals and connectors with a wire brush before putting it back on? Was the cable hot to the touch when you connected it?

Yo, I figured out what the problem was. Has to do with the wiring for the new alternator, did it how they told me to so I puzzled as to what is going on.

How did you figure it out? What is the problem with the wiring?

They belive the ring terminals on the output side of the alternator may be touching the alternator case, which would be grounding them. I just pulled the two existing black with orange strip wires off and only have the power 4 gauge? I think it is wire that was supplied with the kit. I have not had time to go back and see if any of the ring terminals are touching the case with all three on the outpout side of the alternator.
