Default installing timing cover questions

when installing a new timing cover gasket, am i supposed to use any type of adhesive on either side of the gasket?
im talking about the one that is vertical on the face of the block

also, as far as the area where the bottom of the timing cover meets up with the oil pan and the bottom of the block, whats my play there? some type of rtv sealant or something in the corners? i have a gasket kit, but didnt take it apart yet to see if it came with the little gaskets for those corners to cover the exposed part of the oil pan edges. lets say i have the gaskets for oil pan, do i use any type of adhesive to set them in place before trying to get the timing cover in place? if so, what kind?

thanks in advance for any help. feel free to treat me as if i have no clue about what im doing, because i dont. if theres something simple that needs to be done that you would think nobody could possibly not know, please tell me anyway, cause i probably dont know.
in general, all i know is 'torque bolts to spec' and 'put everything back together'. im flying by the seat of my pants.

thanks again

I ususally put some rtv on both sides of the gasket on any thing sealing fluids. Ultra black or ultra copper works good.

If you purchased the entire gasket kit for the timing cover it should include all gaskets needed for the job.

RTV on both sides, I prefer ultra Blue myself. The key step to gasket sealing is to clean all metal surfaces with brake cleaner first, with the final cleaning done with a pretty clean rag.

when i put the rtv on both sides, i put a generous amount so when i tighten the bolts it squeezes out and fills any tiny gaps, yes? i mean, thats the point of using the rtv in the first place, right?

I don't put a lot I just put enough to be able to spread a thin coat with my finger. A little bit of the stuff will go along ways.

I'm with Dawson, I use just a little bit, and spread it with a clean finger to thinly cover the entire gasket surface, on both sides; first on one side of the metal surface, and then after the gasket is placed on top of that, on top of the gasket itself to coat the second side of the gasket.

Like everybody else said, i put gasket sealer on also. Just a thin layer. I use ultra black personally, black matches everything lol. When you torque it done, it will squeeze out some. Wipe your finger around the edges afterwards to clean up the look of it and cover any edges that didnt squeeze any out

As for the oil pan, the corner pieces will get replaced. They should be included in your set
