Default car keeps cranking

If I turn the car on it will just start cranking. I have to pull the small plug off the solenoid to stop it from doing this. Any idea what is causing this to happen? I just got the car back from a shop that spent 2 days trying to fix the problem. They obviously don't have a clue and I will never take it back there since they said the timing is off.

Also, when the car has been driven it won't recrank until it cools down. Not sure if its related or not.

hit the solenoid with the plastic end of a screw driver +1 on it needing to be replaced but you can probably keep using it for a little while longer

Solenoid is good. I bench tested it. Plus, it stops if I pull the small wire and if it was the solenoid it would keep going.

that is correct, before i even read this post I knew the two previous posters had it wrong with their recommendations......you need to test that wire and see if current is remaining on it....most likely it is.....keep a test light hooked to it and see if the test light goes out while you move the key switch around...if it does, either the ignition switch is out of adjustment......can't say I remember them being adjustable.....but either way it sounds as if the electrical portion of the ignition switch may be on the out / contacts stuck together

The light stays on until I turn the key completely off. Is the ignition switch the actual cylinder lock you put the key into or sonewhere else? I have a new cylinder lock just because I want to make sure I have the only keys

The cylinder lock mates up with the ignition switch. You can replace the ignition switch without having to change keys. Good luck...

call ford, give them your vin, the ignition switch has been recalled.

I'm replacing mine as you read this message.

Its not adjustable much of any at all. And its just $14.00 Autozone.

It requires a tamper drive bit and removal of the steering wheel COLLAR, not the entire wheel. and don't get this part confused with the IGNITION KEY LOCK CYLINDER.

Can I run a toggle switch and basically use thay knstead of the key? I wouldn prefer not having to spend hours going through wiring when thay can be run in like 20 minutes or so.
