Default Where is my oil going?!

so ive been having alot of issues of my oil literally just dissapearing. there is zero smoke on startup, run, or any other time. ive had people follow me and watch. last week i checked my oil and the level was at the top of the lines. today, the check oil light came on. ive replaced the pcv valve and screen. didnt seem to help. there is no oil leak on my driveway whatsover. but my bellhousing does seem like its had a leak at some point. can someone please tell me this is something theyve seen?? its so random and its been driving me nuts!!

any help is greatly appreciated. sorry if this is a rant lol

Well you and I are having the same issue, but I am having it with a 2005 BMW X3--no oil leak, no anything, yet the light will come one and I am sure missing about 1 qt of oil...what the heck...

How many miles do you guys get to a quart of oil ?

My car was an oil hog, maybe 400-500 miles and I was over a quart low. No major leaks, the only time I saw smoke out the exhaust was at night with someone behind me. Very easy to see smoke when someone's headlights have to show thru it.

It ended up being my valve seals, easy fix, and 2000 miles later, oil level hasn't even moved yet.

if there is no leak it has to be burning it.

How many miles on the car? Sounds to me it's burning it if you're not seeing an active leak.

i wish someone could actually see it behind me. my mileage really is erratic. i can go 1000+ but then i went on a 500 mile trip and the light came on. just makes no sense... im not technically inclined as far as tearing an engine apart so i think ill have my mechanic look at it.

What do you mean, "just disappearing"? Do you have to add oil? If the level is fine, and your low oil light comes on anyway, it's in the level sensor circuit. It could be an electrical problem with the sensor, or the wiring. The sensor could also be plugged up with sludge.

As for the bellhousing, it is very common for the front and rear main seals to leak oil as they age. Any time a clutch is replaced, the rear main seal should be part of the job.
