I just recently bought a 1989 Mustang GT 5.0,manual tran. And I was wondering if anyone could help guide me with mods. I will be driving it daily, but I also want to kick the sh*t out of a few ricers here and there. So if anyone can help out, I would greatly appreciate it.

Oh, and another thing, price is somewhat of an issue, but not extreme. So if it is quite expensive but worth every penny, I'd be glad to know. Thanks guys.

Gears, exhaust, K&N filter and cold-air intake is a good start, and cheap. Also think about pulleys, synthetic fluids, and acomputerprogrammer if you can afford it. Having a 5.0, you could do a head swap for pretty cheap comparatively, and you can gain some serious power with better heads. Think AFR or Trick Flow. If you're going to swap heads, you should consider an intake swap as well, and a new cam to fit the profile...oh geez, I'm getting out of control. I'll shut up now.

Alright ill tell ya my set up and the order i did it in. Im not a professional this is simply the way i done it and havent had ne problems so far. First off i have a 91 gt aodwhen i got it i took it to the drag strip andran a 10.3 in the 1/8th mile. first mods i made on my car was Ford Racing 3.73 gears and a set of Mac under drive pulleysand new plugs and plug wires. Next i purchased a mac off road h-pipe to rid the car of catalytic converters and i purchased a mac cat back exhaust system. Next on my list was a MAC cold air intake. The last mod i made on my car while the drag strip was open was a set of mac shorty headers. With those mods which was right around a thousand dollars i shaved off 9 tenths of a second and ran a 9.4 in the 1/8th mile. The next mods i made was after the drag strip closed so i cant give ya the results of them yet. But they were a trick flow track heat intake manifold and a 70 mm mac throttle body and egr spacer. THats all of my mods on my car right now but not all of them i need. The next 2 things i need to do is purchase a c&l 76mm mass air meter and a 2500 stall converter.

I was also wondering on whether I should throw in a Turbo or a Supercharger... Which, in your opinions, is the better?

i have heard 3.73s in stick, 4.10s in aod. superchargers are much cheaper than turbos. they put outtons of power too. but i would get h/i/c and full exhaust first though. and if you are planning on putting in good h/i/c (check out www.trickflow.comfor that) go with longtube headers and an o/r x-pipe. MAC sells a good cat-back, that would be good to get. obviosly a CAI. new mass air meter would be good. with some sticky rubber those ricer wont stand a chance!! and it will sound awesome while doin it.

if your biggest goal is to beat a ricer then you bought a mustang for no reason. racing ricers is waste of time and a disgrace to the whole name of a mustang. cause if you would lose to one then they all brag about it.

as far as mods and money.10 minute tune up,355 gears, pullies, aluminun driveshaft, lightwheels, go on a diet,[car] shortthrwo shifter, cold air kit,headers,H/Xpipe,catback, then if money permits, go with a intake, 65TB, MAF,cam, heads. spray,

personally i going TT setup on my ride. i can personally built this setup for around 1000-1500 depending on the parts i choose.

4.10s are the only way to go there in my 2000 stang and took almost a full second off of my 1/8 mile time. Start small like a cold air intake..BBk preferably..upgrade ur maf sensor as well as injectors and ull see a big change. Get an x-pipe gut ur cats and 40 series flowmasters as well. DO those lil things before ya go for big..that alone should make ricers eat ur rubber. go w/ a 75 mm tb if u dont care about gas and if u plan on supercharging or turboing the car....also get rid of ur stock ignition i have an 89 gt as well and the points set up has to go plus its fairly easy www.summitracing.org.... as well as upgrade ur wires to msd as well as ur plugs i recommend NGK a lil more expensive but no probs in fouling em w/ nos or supercharger.... if ya stay single and dont get tickets save for a procharger supercharger but get basics done first before u start there if ya need i can send a parts list to beef up the bottom end of the motor.
