Default Cobra or gt40 intake?

Hey guys ive been lurking around here for a few months but just registered. Im buying a triple black 92 gt vert, with minor mods. I need some advise from the veterans on what heads and upper/lower intake manifold i should get. I plan on buying a vortech SC or S trim and will be running the stock bottom end while I build a 306. I was wondering if the gt40 heads out of an explorer are comparable performance wise to say TF. Also which upper/lower intake should I buy, the gt40 from an explorer or a cobra? My goal is 400whp on a conservative tune, Also I know i will need other fuel and spark components so ill have that covered. I just need advise on the heads and intake

Thank you all for reading

The gt-40's are way off par to almost any aftermarket aluminum head...I would suggest a good set a TF'S along with one of there intakes..Since 400rwhp is going to be real hard to get with a prodution intake and a set of cast heads...ecspecaily on a conservitive tune..

^ Agree, go with a set of AFR's or TW. Also, you can go with a trickflow package that puts you right at about 350 (fwhp) and than with a nice shot you can make your power (or come close) until you strap on that blower w/ a 306.

Heres the link to the TrickFlow package:

BTW, your welcome for helping JUST ONE BIT

When I said fwhp I meant fly wheel horsepower. Also, if I were in your shoes and looking for a cam I would call up CompCams ( www.compcams.com ) and speak to them. Since you want to keep it on the inexpensive side you cant go with a custom grind but CompCams carries hundreds of off the shelf cams that will fit your engines needs. They can also give you any advice or answer any questions that you may have. BTW, the "CAM HELP" number is 1-800-999-0853. Give them a call and see what they say!
