Thumbs up 94 rear end q's?

So im doing up my rear end in the spring.
Upper and lower control arms, new clutches, and bearings.
in a stock 1990 rear end. clutches are pooches, one wheel peel.

And i was creeping the local private ads and theres a 94 rear end complete with disks and rotors & the sway bar.

I am not to sure about the swap from drums to rotors, i just know the braking is better and i will have 5 stars. Thought it would be something to look into.

is the suspension components all the same?

were all 94 rear ends 8.8's? or just the ones on 5.0's?

So is it as simple taking the old rear end out and putting the new one in?

other then bleeding the brakes will the brake fitting fit perfectly?

or do i need a new booster and all that fun stuff?

i also know ill need to deal with the 5 star too

thanks!

94 v6's have a 7.5/ 5.0 8.8

suspension is the same

you will need a proportioning valve to work and the booster to take full advantage

yes it just bolts in

So you are not going to upgrade the gears while you are in there???

haha i knew that was going to come up.

I want some decent fuel millage, but i would loove to do gears.

Its kind of a dd, its going 3.27's now..

Would 3.55 or 3.73's kill my millage, if i get some persuasive input ill go for them. Like im in there why not do it right.

What rpm will i be sitting at for like highway.

I dont want it humping at 3500 on the highway! :P

A deeper gear will not "kill" the mileage but it definately will be lower.
On paper, you will rev higher on the highway. In the real world (mine anyways), you just end up driving slower. I have 3.73's right now and instead of the high revs. I just stick to the right lane and drive a bit slower.

As for the 94 8.8. They are a bit wider and that's a 5 bolt axle.

Actually no, the 94 and 95 rears are not wider. The extra width started in 96 I do believe because of the ABS ring.

For more info on what you need look into the tech articles on brake upgrades and 5 lug swaps. All the info is there and its a good read.

I'm pretty sure all 94-98 rears are the same width, i know my '95 has the ABS ring. I know for sure the axles got wider for the new edge body style though. I have 3.55 gears and turn 2400rpm @ 75mph.

It may just be the front spindles that are not as wide but I know the if the 94/95 parts are used your wheels won't stick out that extra 1/4 inch on each side.

94/95 front spindles are 3/8" narrower than 96-98 ones. the rear ends are identical and all GT's 94-98 had ABS iirc.
they rears did get a little wider in 99, but not by much.
