Default 83 GT tach broke...when to shift?

I have a 5 spd and the tach doesnt work. The speedo works perfect though so I was wondering if anyone knows at what speed is the redline in each gear. Also what is the optimal shifting speed for daily driving in each gear?

You leave alot of the table when you do not accurately shift.

I ran 13.8-13.9 at 100-101 forever. Shifting by what I thought felt good. 4900- 5200rpm.

Tried shifting at 4800. Now going 13.6 @ 102 consistently.

I shifted right before 6000 and I know that because I had the 6000 msd pill in there and ran a 13.7 @ 102.94 on bald street tires(ones I hydroplaned with) so I no i'm not leaving much if not at all

I forsee a blown motor. How bout don't try to redline until you get your tach fixed... how bout don't try to red line at all. Stock 5.0 power drops off before redline.. your just making noise.

Find yourself a a calculator as such

http://www.wallaceracing.com/gear-speed.php

but do not go racing until you fix your tach or get an aftermarket one. If you do don't come on here b**ching about a blown motor or a rod knocking...
