Default What do you guys think?

http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/cto/1929164026.html

long story short is im still waiting to hear from my insurance company bout my '66 should get some money for it (adjuster just called yesterday saying ~10k). Found this in my area yesterday and not being a 5.0, fox guy i thought id get some input from you guys. I've always like the earlier style cobras and this looks like a killer deal and would suit my needs for my toy car.

I'm going to hopefully check it out today. Just need some ideas what to look for and ask about problem spots with these cars. I was thinking about picking up a '11 v6 (still tempted) so i will have enough money to deal with any problem spots this car may have such as the tranny which he doesn't mention. Thanks guys

the car looks very clean. If you're going to get a cobra i would get a 4V engine. 96+. you said you're tempted in buying a 11 v6? For the same price you can get a very mean 03 04 terminator.

I like it I have always had a soft spot for the 94-95 because I like the body style and love that it still has the 5.0

you wouldn't get a warranty with the cobra you're interested.

i know. basically i would either get the '11 as my commuter car and pick up a toy later in my life or keep my crappy commuter right now and pick up a toy car now.

edit: just confirmed with the guy to check it out later tonight. anything trouble spots to look at or questions to specifically ask?

First thing that came to my mind was why is he selling it ? All this money he claims to have put into it (over $25,000) with less than 3,000 miles on these parts. Who puts that kind of money in a car and sells it at a loss right away. Unless he is hard up for money something is wrong with it

the 11 v6 would be a great commuter. Ask If he built the engine himself or took it to a shop. if he did all the work ask about his knowledge. Also, look under the hood, check the radiator core support of any accidents. check that everything is straight. Ask him about the problems the car it has and why he wants to sell it. Take a close inspection of everything. make sure all the panels line up correctly and little stuff like that

thanks for the help. I'm laughing with my co-workers right now because they are betting that if I buy the car my insurance company is going to turn around and say "oh the damage to your mustang isn't too bad, we'll repair it". just what i need 24yr old with a commuter, and two mustangs....lol. i do still wanna wait to see what my insurance is going to say. should get back to me in the next couple days

so test drove the car last evening. car is very clean inside and out. checked the rear wheel wells and it doesnt look like he has been beating on it at all. Said he is selling it just because he never drives it and wants to buy his wife a new TL.

The car is as he described it. Dyno'd around 340hp (i think), interior looks like a brand new car with the 04 interior. Tranny is still bone stock with (i assume) 152k miles which is what the odo says. The guy wasn't sure which owner he was, he had never tried to track that down. He's got receipts for everything. He did most of the work himself except the heads and cam which he sent to a shop because it needed new pushrods and he didnt have the measuring tool.

So the only problems i had with the car was that id be worried about that tranny. I feels solid and good but not sure how long those trannies hold up. Also had a problem with first driving the car. had a weird idle with the rpm's going up and down till the car ran a bit and it finally calmed down

pulled it out and it died on me a couple times waiting for a red light. restart the car and it would start fine then the rpms would just crash and stall out the car. had to hold the pedal a bit in neutral to get her to hold. once we were driving thought the car drove and sounded wonderful. the new suspension makes the car feel like it rides on rails.

overall i was pretty impressed with the car. figured the engine would have to be tuned to that cam which he said was most likely the problem with the problem i was having
