I went and competed in the Open Comp class at the Houston event last weekend. Had one hell of a good time. Car done great. Ripped off an 11.19 @ 122mph first hit off the trailer. All motor pass, Was very happy with those results. Ended up being eliminated first round. Got put on the trailer by Heritage Propane sponsored Mustang driven by Jack Roush's Daughter Susan. First class lady and race team. Its just hard to compete against a million dollar race team when your just a peon like me. Will be looking forward to next year, may make a few more events, will have to see how my bank account is doing first. Entry fees are astrinomical, $160 bucks for the weekend.

Well, my car slowed 3 tenths from its best of 3 qualifying passes. They take your best of 3 passes in qualifying, subtract a 1/10th from it and thats your dial in. the had me dialed in at 11.18 off of my 11.28 qualifying pass. Weather started near perfect and as we closed on Sunday, the weather was 15-20 degrees warmer with about 70% more humidity. I ran an 11.50 in eliminations. She was dialed in on a 9.83 and had me run down by 1/8 mile and fendered me the rest of the way down the track. I was sick when I saw the time slips. She cut a .006 light against my .106 on a .500 Pro Tree.

Maybe time to get a practice tree and start using it.
I've had one for years and can tell you that a .500 pro tree is not even may favorite thing.
Remember, you may have lost first round but it took a million dollars to beat you.........

HAHAHA Yeah you right!!!! She was 3/10ths off her time too. The weather turned to garbage and everyone was running slower. I think she got eliminated next round anyhow, but its all good. I had a wonderful time and am looking forward to doing it again.

I also think that you need real slicks to be competitive in that sort of racing.
Also think of this, if your .106 had been .006 (like hers) where would she have caught you?
You would have been dumping at the 1250' mark.........
I sure wish I could race at Houston sometime, I've never run my car in less than 3400 A.D., 500'A.D. may really scare me..........
I've run 11.20 at 3400' A.D.
Probably go 10.80 down there........

Actually the corrected altitude was 172' above sea level when we actually made our passes that evening. And I have zero problems with my drag radials. My converter is way to tight for my set up. But its a street car and I didn't want to run around town slipping to 3000+ rpms just rolling in town traffic. I came off the brake @ 3200rpms and shifted @ 6500rpms. The car does really well considering what parts is in the engine. I mean, what other Pro Comp headed engine have you heard of doing this well in N.A. form. It has only got 9.8:1 compression. Runs on 87 octane!!!
