Building a T5 for 400-420rwhp?
I'm doing a T5 swap into my old plymouth muscle car.(due to space constraints in the tunnel)
The current setup for the new engine should make 300-320rwhp and 300-330rwtq. This is guesstimated by a very similar engine through an automatic transmission.
However down the road i'm eventually gonna put nitrous or a blower on the car(though likely nitrous).
The car now weighs about 3200lbs, but it should be close to 3000lbs when i'm finished with it.
I've seen that there are several gear sets/options and i'm wondering which would be the best for me? Should I overbuild the tranny with that 550tq astro gear kit? or use the one close to the power that the engine will make on nitrous?
Also, looking at a better shifter for this stock t5 that's gonna be used for the time being(w/o slicks), are those 50$ ebay one's any good or stick to the hurst/pro 5.0/etc?

Like we said in the post about this back in Oct....you should go with something other than a T5 BUT if you got the money overbuilding is never a bad idea...

Just to drive the point home:
TKO:
T56:
T5:
As for the newbie thread, my mistake, but this seemed tech worthy due to it being about how far i should beef up the t5.

Since you already had the tunnel cut open I would have installed a TKO at least. I can understand if your trying to keep it looking as stock and clean as possible but you can only do so much with such a small trans.

hmm, well then i have another question, I'm looking at those remanufactured TR3550's on ebay. do those have a longer input shaft like the 94/95 T5, or is it close to the fox body t5?
After all this, i'm thinking that if i sell the t5 i have, and the 833(oem 4spd) and save a little, i should be able to swing a TR3550 or TKO500(if i save longer)

I might be beating a dead horse, but the T5 is not really suited to your goals.
Why not use a A833 4 speed OD? You can even get a Muncie M21 with OD now. Both of those will hold way more power than you aim for now and still fit in your tunnel.

1. 3.09:1
2. 1.67:1
3. 1:1
4 .73:1
You can get an aftermarket gear set that makes a good 833-OD, but it costs 1700 bucks for the gear set or 3k for a complete unit. Add labor+ misc parts of rebuilding an 833 and i'm into it for more than the cost of a TKO600.
