i need to know what if any differences there are between the trannys out of the 1982 5.0 4 speed mtx and the 1986 5.0 5 speed borg warner trans. i want to upgrade the trans in my car and the last question i posted didnt seem to be worded correctly.

well, for one... the 86 trans has 5 speeds....

i know it has 5 speeds, im not asking about those differences, im asking about the differences, if any, that would prevent me from swapping the 86 5 speed trans into the 82 with the 4 speed.

bellhousing, clutch size, flywheel balance...


physically, itll fit fine. Just make sure the other parts that go with it are what you need.

any reason your choosing an '86 ? its loads better than the 4 speeds you mentioned...but still weak compared to newer T5's

the '86 is a 1352-165
86.5 is 1352-169
1990 is 1352-199
and 1992 is 1352-208

if the tag id DOES not have any of those numbers...its NOT a world class and you dont want it

the reason its an 86 is because thats the year of the parts car i had that the trans came out of. im asking all these questions so i can gain other peoples knowledge of this before i dive into it and find out the 5 speed wont work. the trans does say borg warner on it, so im not sure if thats any indication of a good 5 speed trans or not.
