Default 91 5.0 dies in the heat

My 91 convertible keeps dying in the heat. It'll be fine for about twenty minutes, but then the accelorator seems to stop working and the car stops getting fuel. Leaving it to sit for a couple hours allows me to start it back up, but it dies about 5-10 miles later. I had similar problems last summer, and we replaced the fuel pump, both relays, and the filter. It hadn't had anymore problems till this last week. Now I can't really feel safe driving it between 12-5pm. It doesn't have any problems after the sun goes down and it cools off. And, the car itself is not overheating, the temp gushed doesn't even go up past the middle. Anyone have any ideas at all??

Ign module or coil would be my guess, heat is a killer to Ignition components. Also check out the pick up in the distributor as well.

Does your car do this with a full tank of gas?

I'd start with verifying whether you're actually losing fuel. Chances are quite good you're actually losing spark, and the culprit is the ignition module on the front of the distributor.

It hasn't yet. So far half a tank or less before I have a problem.

How do I check that?

Pretty simple. When the problem happens, remove one of the spark wires from the distributor cap and hold it justttt slightly above its corresponding post while the motor is spinning, so the spark has to jump to the wire instead of clean contact. If you have spark you should be able to hear it quite well, will sound like a small bolt of lightning. No worries about getting shocked unless the plug wires are old and frayed.

Or, buy one of these: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=900800_0_0_
Hook it up in line on a spark plug wire and spin the motor. If you have spark, it'll light up.

When you replaced the fuel pump last year was it with a new one or a used one bc the fuel in your tank helps keep your pump cool i believe it is your fuel pump but there are alot of people here know more than me but it sounds to me like your fuel pump is getting hot and not delivering the fuel. When your problems happen will your car idle and then cut out when you accelerate or will it just die out completely?

For instance, normally the accelerator seems to stop working, and as the car slows down the engine eventually just dies. But occasionally if I catch the problem early enough I can put the pedal to the floor and it will sound almost like It's backfiring. Lots of bubbling and choking sounds. But if I slow down at all or let off the gas it immediatly dies. If you try to start it right back up the starter turns and stuff but as soon as it starts it just dies again. Not even a few seconds of idle. The fuel pump was new, but the new relays were used.
