91 vert 347 build question/recommendations
Just picked up my first mustang about a week ago. The engine/trans in the car now is in decent shape so it'll stay in there until the build is done. Im picking up another 5.0 this weekend with a complete engine harness and computer for $400 which I thought was a pretty decent find. Im pretty set on building a 347 and just wanted to get some feedback on what setups you guys have ran and what has worked best for you. This isn't a "budget build" but keep in mind its not going to be a full on track car either. Overall goals are around 450-500 hp. Thanks in advance for your input.

450-500 rwhp on a stock block.........?? it'll take a well thought out build and at that range they tend not to live a long life as to get that out of a 347 it'll usually take rpm above 6500.........if you want it to live keep the rpm below 6500, but I doubt it'll hit your hp goal.......400 rwhp is doable and staying within the 6500 rpm range...........It'll take good machine work and good parts and decent rings that'll seal.......I use www.fordstrokers.com for my 347 short block, and my heads are tfs tw 203 cc custom heads from ED Curtis at flowtech induction and a ported victor jr by him as well and a custom cam by him as well and a 780 cfm carb from Jesse Biggs.......this is the core of the build.....of course I have all the bolt ons and many other supporting mods.......I've never had it dynoed but it traps 122+ mph in the 1/4 on the motor alone and has run low 11's and could do better if I could drive...lol.....but based on the mph it should have around 400 rwhp......this will give you an idea what parts it'll take..........with a solid roller cam, you could easily hit your goal with all the right supporting mods as a SR cam designed right will easily allow 7k rpm+, but I wouldn't do that in a stock block.

I know people start to cringe once you start to crest the 450 mark on a stock block so im not opposed to looking into a dart. Realistically 400 on a NA setup is still a nice number. Ive been going back and forth on whether or not I want to stay low compression for so some of forced induction or not but im leaning towards sticking with all motor. Ive built several turbo cars and while they're fun, I don't necessarily need it haha! I should've mentioned that I will be going back to EFI as well. Sounds like you have a heck of a nice setup though id love to see it run!!

I like MJRs advice. If your not apposed to an after market dart block why not go with a stroked 9.5 deck block? The cost to build a big stroker really isn't any worst than building an 8.2! I kind of wished I would have went with more cubes but a 363 will get you a 10 second car no problem. another up side to the 363 is you won't run into fitment issues that crop up with the bigger motor.

motor run last year......did a few changes this year and 2 weeks ago hit 122 in the 1/4....still working on changes.....hope to hit a 10.90 on the motor and hit 123-124 mph out of the motor. got a few more tweeks to do to it this summer. my problem is this is all on a stock block....i'm on borrowed time here and I spray it too with 100 shot........have hit 10.70's at 128......when this combo splits and I'm sure it will.....I'll either build a 408 or a 363.

none at all.......that's with seats and all.......I plan to yank the tremec 3550 as it is way heavier than a t-5 and I have a t-5 waiting to build an A5 from astro to shed some weight, then remove the front and rear bumper reinforcements for tubular ones, then remove the sway bar as I never run with it hooked up but it's still on and then maybe a race seat and remove the passenger side for racing......I don't want to remove to much as the goal is to do it as if it were in street trim......oh and next time run my slicks instead of my drag radials....forgot the open ended lug nuts 2 weeks ago and I was pissed as I had to run drag radials that wouldn't hook..lol
