nitpick- Dave Pericak is the chief engineer on Mustang.

Its like you trying to breath thru a straw versus a garden hose. Which is easier?
What's the cross-sectional area of that "pinched off snorkel" and how much air can flow through it compared to the engine's needs?

Well heck...let's just use open round pancake filters mounted on top of the manifold.

How do you know the engine needs more than the "little pinched off snorkel" can provide?

It's sounds like nobody has done any bench flow test to back up their argument on either side. Maybe a back to back dyno??? Anybody?

I did with my '08. K&N CAI gained 3hp over the stock airbox. no other mods same dyno same day with in the time it took to install the CAI.

Results yielded a measured gain, but that's with the 4.6L not a 5.0L

http://www.mustangandfords.com/parts...s/viewall.html That's for 4.6L S197 motors but it should hold true for any comparison with respect to design and flow concepts alone adding HP without a tune.

Brenspeed also did a simplified one a while back and posted their findings on the forums but I can't find it. Maybe contact them and have them post a link to it if anyone is interested? I'm too lazy to go digging for it but they DID do a CFM test of all the top name CAI's against the Stock Ford intake and FRPP intake.

In a nut shell, for most cars, and even mildly modified cars, the intake alone does nothing. The OEM handles most things just fine (even mild cams). IMO, a CAI that sucks air in from the engine bay is NOT a CAI (Cold air intake). Cold Air intakes should draw air in from the fender well or other non-engine area and should be shielded from the hot engine bay air. Otherwise to me, they are just (modified) air intakes, there's nothing 'cold' about them.

A whopping 3 HP? Let me guess...that was at the high end of the RPM range where your engine rarely sees.

2005-2009s were known to have slightly restrictive air intakes. That was resolved in 2010+

A gain is a gain, doesn't matter where it was gained. Which proves your opinion of no gain wrong.

Also is you car completely stock power wise? Because at normal driving you only need about 75 hp anyway.

Big difference between your old 3 vlv and the 2015 5.0 sooooo were going with no. Nobody can back up their argument on either side with fact as of this posting! And both Pro CAI & Con CAI opinions about the 2015 GT are at this time just that. Opinions.

So would it be beneficial to stay with a stock unit till a big change is made? As in tune, forced induction, etc. What about a drop in filter like a K&N? Just curious, i enjoy learning!

K&N filters are a waste of money.
