What is everyone running for oil in their new 5.0? Getting ready for the first oil change and leaning heavily toward Amsoil.

Haven't done an oil change yet, but I don't think you can go wrong with any top quality oil meeting Ford's specs. I've used Redline, Royal Purple and been using Mobil 1 in everything for years with no problems. Amsoil is typically rated one of, if not the top, synthetic oils, so I would not expect any issues with that brand either.

Also, as to change intervals...go with manufacturer's recommend to stay in warranty and document the changes with receipts for oil and filter.

After the warranty expires, I go 10K between changes (with synthetic oil).

I use mobil1 in everything except my ecoboost that calls for a blend and I use the motorcraft blend. wondering what the manual in the 5.0 calls for?

I know amsoil and royal purple and those are very good oils but in these engines I do not see them even being remotely necessary worth the cost.

Yeah, that's a decision you have to make for yourself. I feel that the better lubricity of a synthetic and longer change interval works for me. I kind of wonder if Amsoil is better than it really needs to be, if that makes sense.

While under warranty I would stick with the dealer for oil changes and use either semi-sythentic (minimum required) or full synthetic from motorcraft. With the dealership the records are kept and available when any type of warranty issue arises.

I stick with ford's Motorcraft full synthetic because it works...and it's realitively cheap compared to oils like Mobil 1 full synthetic.
