Default Lope at idle on a 2011?

Hello all,

First off yes I am a corvette guy, but most of all I am a muscle car guy. I love them all and this new Mustang has my attention. I am thinking really hard about buying one...............
My question is, Can you get a lope out of this new motor like you can on a typical push rod motor? I think it is awesome all the power Ford is getting out of this 302 but a lope just screams muscle car to me.........Is it possiable are will you just lose power by changing the cams?

Any help would be appreciated!!!!!!!

It will take some time for the aftermarket to come out with bigger cams. Given it has four, I can only imagine what the price will be.

There was some speculation that a lope can be tuned into the car, but I don't know. From the factory, the car actually has a rougher, lopier idle than most . . . to the point that some of us wondered if there was a problem.

Thank you for your response......

So I quess it is possiable then! That is good news, I wonder how much more power can be produced out of this little 302! It seems like 550 hp N/A will be achieved by good tuners soon. That speaks wonders for Ford and this motor.

If anyone else has Info on Cams or tunning Please comment on it...........

It's there already. You can hear it with an open exhaust.

Yep. That's what mine sounds like.

Between that and the sound of the Steeda intake when I floor it, life is good.

I don't know if it is possible, but if there is a tuner that can do this, you can make a pretty sick "lop lop lop" by programming the VCTi to phase the cam lobe angles as far in as possible.

The drawback is you will sacrifice meat off your torque and therefore power curves at lower RPM and you will also spew alot more unburnt fuel straight out the exhaust valve.

The "lop lop lop" sound is a direct effect of the valve overlap duration being too big for the RPM the engine is running at.

That raises a question in my mind: the mufflers must be designed in such a manner to provide just the right back pressure at the idle RPMs. A "tuned" back pulse, if you will, to reduce over scavenging of unburnt fuel at lower RPMs.

This unfortunately would mean that it also returns that same pulse at higher RPMs, thus hurting scavenging when you need the higher flow rate to allow more fresh fuel into the cylinders at the higher RPM.

With the muffler delete this guy did, did he he take it to the dyno to see if he was able to squeeze a little more about it?

And also in line of scavenging, are the cats high flow? (I.e. how much back pressure do they add to the exhaust system?)

With the stock mufflers it is the exact same, just extremely quiet. You can hear it in a garage even with the stock mufflers.
