2011 GT vs. 2011 Shelby GT 500?
#41
Easy now! I'm only 39! Anyways, I went to the dealer to order a new 5.0 and left w/ my GT500. The GT has lots of interior treatments that are above and beyond the GT500. The GT500 just has power and ultimate speed over the GT. A lot will look at the name cachet of the GT500. I couldn't care less about having SHELBY on my decklid. I bought the look, power, and performance.

The shelby is kinda overpriced, but it does have a few benefits such as a supercharger that will be covered by your warranty, and arent the internals forged in the snake. I dont really think its too bad when you compare all aspects....too bad im poor

GT vs Shelby
I'd take the GT all day long. Why? About 300lbs lighter. Weight is everything for the track and there are plenty of go fast bolt ons for the 5.0.
Further, maybe I'm wrong but a friend of mine said that manufacturers use a ratio of 1.2:1.0 when determining what a red line for an engine should be.
Given that the 5.0 has a redline of 7000 and the Boss 302 next year is using the exact same engine with a little intake and exhaust tuning, it's going to have a redline of 7500 RPM. That being said, if you use the 1.2 ratio, the engine is designed to go to 9000 rpm before throwing a rod. Not sure if I'm right, but that is thought provoking!
By the way with the extra 20k, and the way the economy is, you could buy a really nice boat for that money.

The road tests , including the latest "lightning lap" review in Car and Driver
(2/11) of the 11 GT vs GT500 don't warrant the extra $$
While I'm a huge fan of Shelby, bang for the buck I can match the performance with mods for a lot less.
It's cheaper to insure , and less likely to get stolen.
I look at it this way ... my GT has more power and better handling than the classic GT 500 (68/69) that has been my dream since I saw them new at Carroll's dealership in Lake Tahoe.
I can live with that

Quick question. For those who say they would rather take the 11gt for 20g less and mod to be as fast why not buy a super low mileage 05gt for 13-15g's (20 less than the 11gt) and spend 20 g's on mods? This way you are faster than an 11 and still are 20g's under a Snake.
