Default 2011 GT vs. 2011 Shelby GT 500?

Hi, looking to buy a 2011 stang.....does anyone think the Shelby ($57,000) is worth $20,000.00 more than the premium GT ($37,000)? I'm looking at the features / stats for both cars and I don't see an extra 20 grand. The performance of a 5.0 appears to be just shy of the Shelby. The 5.0 with a about 5 grand worth of after market performance parts should be able to out pace the Shelby in all catagorys. All beit I havn't drove either car....yet....I'm not seeing the the money value in the Shelby, but I could be wrong. Any opinions?

I was fortunate to find a 08 GT500 with few miles for 4k more then a loaded 5.0...Having that Snake is simply awesome and for about 2300.00...I have pumped it up to 547 rwhp and it will easily smoke a 5.0...but it I had only the choice of a new Snake or a 5.0... I wouldnt pay the extra 20K...I would certainly get the 5.0...

A part of that 20k is to own a legit Snake. Whether you care about that or not, I don't know. I certainly wouldn't pay it. I really couldn't care much about my car being a Saleen. I bought it because I liked the look, it had good power to start with, and was in the right price range. But I wasn't going to pay a premium for the name, just what the car came with because of that name. If I had thought I could take a regular 4.6l Stang and make it function/look like this car for cheaper, I probably would have.

A lot of it has to do with the passion.....a die-hard shelby / saleen guy buys with his heart and mind and in the end they are happy no matter what the price. I don't have that same passion for specific model type, but I do have the passion for a fast mustang......this will be my 5th mustang in about 20 years. I'm trying to decide whether the extra 20K is worth it or spending some additional $$ on a GT will get me the same performance. I guess the answer is clear.....a GT with some after-market parts is the way to go.....for me.

$57K for a GT500 is kind of on the higher end optioned out Snake. I cannot remember exactly, but I think the GT500 begins at just over $50K with some options already. That would be only a $13K difference, if my guess of the base GT500 price is correct.

And trust me, the $5K of mods you put on a Coyote to bring it to GT500 performance, if you take that same $5K and put it into the Snake, you will have an even faster and better Snake!

I agree....the additional money is in the SVT package, Technology and some scoops. Depends on what a person wants to spend. For me once I get into the 60+ money....I'll move onto a used porsche. Mustangs are fun bruisers.

For $60K, I probably would move to a different car too. That is getting into mid-ranged Corvettes and knowing the 'Vette has a little better aerodynamics and a little better handling, I would move to that car.
