Being an owner of a new F150, I see on that forum some of the trucks with 5.0's do the same. After approx. 5000 miles it seems to settle down. Nature of the beast I guess.
If I'm not mistaken the 5.0 in the f150 isn't the same engine as the one in the mustang.
Lucas oil should help reduce consumption....I will add it when i do my 1st oil change. It worked well on my 2010 stang! I will be using amsoil synthetic when i get to 4k miles, with 1800 miles my oil is 78%..
Probable differences are cams and computer tuning to achieve a broader torque curve for towing. It might also have different internals since it is not intended as a sports car engine. Also its missing the fancy 5.0 engine cover worth at least a loss of 15 hp.

Reason: humor
I have a 2011 GT with approximately 11,500 miles. I switched to Motorcraft full synethetic at 3,000 miles since the dealer carries it and I don't like changing oil any more. Anyway, I check my oil level every 1,000 miles and have not noticed any significant burnoff.
