2011 GT mpg question
#22
Lol, yeah, probably true. Kia advertises some of their models get over 30 mpg hwy, but even after a good engine break in(3000 mi+), I had people tell me that they can't reach that 30mpg. They say they don't floor it, but I am somewhat doubtful. In a four banger, I myself will floor it just to be able to accelerate with the traffic flow.
They say they don't have mods of tunes, but I don't know for sure. I never looked under their hoods. I do tend to believe this because, why would anyone mod a Kia?

Got average of 26.2 mpg driving my 2011 GT 65-70mph. Dropped to 25.2 mpg after I drove it 75-85mph, mostly highway.
Car is stock with 3000 miles on it.
Its my first Mustang and I cant belive how comfy the car was on a longer trip. Drove it today from Frisco NC to Long Isand NY, 560 miles. Not only got great gas millage but had fun driving it. Realized one thing tough, its SO EASY to speed in this car, 100mph didint feelt lie it at all. Sorry to go a little of topic, Im still very excited about my new car :-)

Averaging 17.3 per the computer with about 50/50 city/hwy. Have almost 6200 miles since Oct. Almost always 93 oct. (maybe a total of 10-15 gallons of 89 since I bought it.) On trips longer than 40-50 miles, MPGs are awesome. 26-28mpgs. In town. Ugg, it BAD. 10-15mpgs. I'm pretty happy w/ 17-18 average though. My big-*** truck got a BEST of 20mpgs on a trip. And 93 is MUCH cheaper than Diesel these days. Car is saving me about $15-20 a week in fuel!

Yeah, I see the same thing. In trips around town, no hwy at all, all speed limits 50MPH or less, my in-city only MPG drops to maybe 16MPG avg. Stop lights and slow speed limits completely DESTROY fuel economy.
As for gas being cheaper than diesel, I hate to say savor the moment. Car sales in China is sky-rocketing, China already out-strips the US in cars being bought. In the next several years, there will be enough car drivers in Asia such that they will put an extreme pressure on the global fuel supply for gasolines, and gasolines will once again be much higher than diesel.
The only reason why diesel is actually higher now, is because massively industrializing countries like China, India, & Brazil, of course are first buying tremendous numbers of trucks and diesel trains to support they new factories. But once their general populations start buying cars (which will of course vastly be gasoline fueled), then the gas prices will will jump to ~$5 USD for 87 octane at the pump for us. And diesel will hit around the $4 per gal mark.
I do not know what the current predictions are for when this will happen, but I know it will happen unless there is a huge paradigm shift in fuel usage.

If you have 3.73:1 rear gears, yeah, the fuel mileage will not be the advertised 26mpg hwy.
Also, you car will improve in mpg once you reach 5000 miles.
I have 3.31:1 rear gears on mine and on straight highway at 70mph, I get 28mpg. I have seen on rare occasions 30-31mpg average.
What destroys fuel mileage are stop signs, stop lights, and speed limits less than 60mph. City driving. In city driving I see high teens mpg avg.
Mixed hwy and city I see 21-23 mpg avg over a month time.
