Default 2011 mustag GT - Rust in the axle

Hi Guys,

I Live in Brazil and I have a 2010 silver GT premium.
Now I have a chance to change it in a 2011 grey GT premium with a glass roof, 19" wheels and a magnaflow exhaust.

The 2011 mustang is not as new as mine, but it has the new 5.0 motor and the auto 6 transmisson.

The only thing that is strange to me is that under the car, the rear axle and the drive shaft are both with a lot of rust. All other things under the car are in very good shape.

Is normal rust in that areas? My 2010 doesn´t have this kind of thing. Neither in my 1998 jeep wranger.

Thanks for your help.

Mauricio

It's probably just surface rust. My 2010 GT's rear axle and driveshaft are also rusty.

Same here I was crawling around under my car this past weekend and noticed the rust on the axle.

I imagine that Brazil's humidity makes Alabama look like a desert. I am in the same boat with all the above posters. I would not worry about it. The 5.0 is going to blow you away!

That is the coating .. it is actually protective.. not an indication of wear. Think anodized aluminum.. without the shiny.

Thanks for all replies.
Unfortunately I decide not to change the car.
First the seller asked me too much to make the change. Here in Brazil my 2010 costs about US$70.000 (yes, you read it right) and to the 2011 I will need to spend more US$ 19.000.

I also noticed that the 2011´s previous owner made a mess in the car´s wire´s. He cutted the original wire´s connection to install xenon lights (chinese one), sound in the trunk and a câmera in the front bumper. Telling about front bumber, its inside part is glued with fiber glass. With that I discovered that the car was involved in small accident.
I realy like the 5.0 motor and the glass roof, but to pay more money in a car that is not as new as my 2010 I didn´t think that is good thing to do. With this amount I can make a lot of upgrades in my 2010.
What do you think about it?
Thanks
Mauricio

Sounds like you have made the right decision to me. One rule of thumb I have is to never ever take over someone else's project. Looks like the 2011 your were looking at was a little on the patched up side. You can always go FI, but I am not sure that will give you as much as the 5.0. You will need to beef up the internals for sure, clutch, etc. Not sure how all of that costs in your part of the world. FI would be the way to go, but 400 RWHP is about what a FI 4.6 will get you. I could be wrong in that. Maybe someone else can chime in??

Why not just buy one in the states and ship it?
