Default budget ls1 killer?

my friend has a motor in his back yard. sadly its been exposed to the weather he wants $100 for it theres a lower efi intake and mustang valve covers loosely bolted to it as well as some of the bracketry. i want to test the comp on it. do i just spin the motor with a breaker bar or what? i dont have a spare bellhousing so i cant bolt a starter up
i was thinking if its all good to re ring it and put it all back together. im on a serious budget but my 86 flat top piston motor is losing comp.i have a extra set of e7 heads i want to gasket match or have ported but honestly i dont know much about porting as far as how much can be done and what kinda price to expect or if its worth it or not.i pretty much want a reliable 300hp motor, 400 would be nice for the ls1 kill.
heres a list of some stuff i already have:
bbk under drives
offroad h pipe / 40 series flows with lx tips
mac equal length shorties
crane cams fireball hi-6 and matching fireball coil
24lb injectors
im already running maf on the 86 car with a a9l
4banger t5 for better gear ratios

so i geuss a few questions...by getting the heads worked whats the best i can expect on a stock motor?
so with heads, cam, intake and exhaust is it possible to reach 400 hp?

You not going to be killing many LS1's on a budget. Maybe you will get a stock auto car with the sucky 2.73 gears and a crappy driver. 400 hp with a 5.0 does not come easy or cheap.

HP is not what kills an LS1 except for on a dyno. you need to be quicker than he is.

if you are sticking to the e7 heads and have no other options you'll have to port those, port the bowls too.
4.10 gears or 4.30 gears.
275/50/15 MT ET streets
lightweight aluminum wheels
4 cyllinder springs
short throw shifter
upper and lower control arms
sub frame connectors
weld up TQ boxes

it'd be a drivers race at that point. stock 5.0 running in the low 13's with that combo

well it sounds like with the right heads its easily possible. and thats what ive always been told the ls1 motor just has great heads...which of course are rumored to have been designed by ford and the idea sold to gm,lol...so is anyone running the thumper e7s? does he mean the heads can support "up to" 12 sec times or will gice 12 sec times on a stock 302?
my other friend just got a ls1 camaro and turned from 5.0s so i kinda wanna spank him at the track for fun since hes always had a faster car, ive always just been a bit behind what hes doing.

the stock 5.0 can run in the high 12's just with suspension, tires and gears alone.

dont waste your money on stock heads. get a gt40 set up(heads and intake) and a new cam and you'll be close to 300hp but still slow because you have no susepension, gears tires or anything. i say on a budget what i stated above will be your cheapest, fastest and least involved build. then you take slo5oh's idea and slap on some nitrous. on you are mid 12's

with higher gears you'll burn those off like they are nothing. those sound like really small tires... like 25in or smaller. lol.

you really need a taller/wider tires(for racing preferably drag radials) with some gears and control arms. you'll have a lot of fun with your car with that alone. lol.
