... So I ran a Challenger SRT8 Today.

srt8 I really think is garbage.. RT all the way.. if i could have any chally I would take an RT over an srt8.. unless i wanted to be a collector.. then i might take an srt8.. for performance, rt.. srt8s are just too heavy. I always thought that and i guess the guys over at motortrend agree.. honestly superbee srt8 driver.. your 12.8 with whatever 1800 DA with your mods is very unimpressive.. I think an RT with similiar money put into it would be dominating you (including price for car) your run calculates down to 12.5@110? I dont think it takes too much for an RT to get down there..im at a DA corrected 12.8@108 and im not even close to spending as much as a base msrp of an srt8 chally or charger.. GT500s you could also are overpriced for performance.. used is the only way id buy one.. not worth the nearly 50k for it.. S/C you base GT and be faster for cheaper..
yeah whatever. apparently you have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to the differences between an SRT-8 and an R/T ie power, suspension, etc etc. the faster it gets the more noticeable it will become. as for an R/T keeping up with an lightly modded SRT at the track it'd better have some serious mods. the SRT-8 is rated @ 425hp. but, if you buy the exact engine in a crate it is rated @ 450 go figure. there were no R/Ts running in the 12s at the track that day or even 13s for that matter. i was the only SRT-8 without serious mods in the 12s so for me it was a good day. it seems that there are some contradictions in your thoughts. you are stating that the R/T would be dominating me with similar mods yet you are comparing an ET from a S197, that has more mods than i do, that has a "corrected time" that is 3/10 and 2mph slower. based on your theory, your S197 should apparently be running faster since S197 are supposedly > than R/Ts yet a lightly modded R/T should be faster than a similarly modded SRT-8. that's like saying a S197 w/ whipple should be able to take a GT500 w/ whipple. 3/10 in the 1320 is a good bit. that specific run was done at Mopar Madness and the cars there ran the entire spectrum of mods. i can tell you that based off of the entire field of racers there that your theory is flawed. "for performance, rt. srt8s are just too heavy." ha ha ha ha. besides, i only spent 32,000 for my SRT-8 after financing.

I've had my needle buried while I was stock. The problem is once you hit around 140-145ish you have to shift into 5th... and there's just no power in 5th and it doesn't seem to go any faster. I figured out how to show my speed on my GPS. So someday i'll get a friend in the car with me to watch the speed on that while I drive it. BTW My GPS shows me going about 3mph slower than what my Speedo says, at any speed. I think the GPS is more accurate. But anyway... supposedly our cars are supposed to be drag limited stock to about 138, but that's probably with 3.55 gears. And that should be about when 4th gear ends. Unless you've got some serious power, 5th gear isn't gonna do much.

That crate motor probably doesn't have any accesories attached to it, which will cause it to make more power.

The Chally SRT8 only has 53hp and 20lbs-ft of torque more. And there is an $8k-12k difference in their price. I think Mishri is just trying to say that performance per dollar is cheaper with the R/T. If you put that $8k-12k in an R/T to match the price, that SRT8 wouldn't stand a chance. Now if you disregard price and just look at the motors... then the SRT8 would be a better choice. It has more displacement to begin with and more power. But the thing is, we have to consider price, and that's why even motor trend chose the R/T over the SRT8. Because of price vs performance. That's why the Mustang GT has always been an attractive choice, cuz they're dirt cheap, and faster than anything else at the same price. And there is a rather large after market for them :-)

wow. you did get a hell of a deal *****.. msrp on those are over 41k w/o any options.. i only spent 25k on my car brand new.. and chargers are msrp at 32k.. I didn't say with similiar mods.. i said similiar money invested in the car.. so 9k worth of mods an R/T would be really fast compared to an srt-8 which would still be stock at 41k.

i have a total of about 1500 spent in performance mods.. putting me at total expense of 26.5k i think my 13.5@102 DA adjusted to 12.8@108 is pretty good for how little i spent on a brand new car..

actually with your few mods your time is excellent for your car, id be happy with that time if i were you.. i just wouldn't be happy with how much i spent on the car

maybe if i had 50,000 sitting in my bank account I wouldn't worry about the extra cost of the srt8 or the gt500.. but i think i would.. i think i would think.. hey i could either buy this car and throw a few mods on it or i could really do up an r/t or a gt nice..

In my theory it isn't a whippled GT vs a whippled GT500.. it would be an extra 20k+ to spend on the GT.. so that is a built engine with a mammoth Kenne Belle and other mods putting out 700-800rwhp and being lighter than the GT500 and putting out more power than the whippled gt500

my general theory when it comes to cars is lighter is better (as long as you don't have to sacrafice too much power) vettes are nice.. light cars with v8s.. maybe someday if i have the money i will buy a vette. preferabbly a z06 and by then ill be an old man so i'll fit in with the other vette drivers

when the manufacturers rate engines they don't have accesories either and they are usually the 1 off non-massproduced version.

Had mine up to 140 briefly once. Had to get into 5th around 135. It was still climbing but slowly. I'm guessing it could've hit 150 with some more road but it would've taken a while. Once you get into 5th it's a snail.

Haven't tried that since I got the 4.10 gears though. Wonder what kind of difference that would make.

The manufacturers who are using the new SAE Certified horsepower standard measure output with accessories in place, and the exhaust system it will be equipped with. That standard is a measurement of the power the engine will produce as it is in the production vehicle, and to date is the most accurate.

4.10s make a huge difference on top end! 4.10s cause 5th gear to become a gear with some pulling power vs falling on its face with stock 3.55s. It was the same deal with my Mach 1.

Wait, I thought gears made top end worse.

Hell no. When I was stock, I bounced off the rev limiter more than once.

I've gone around 160 after CAI/Tune. GPS said 162 anyways, not sure how accurate that thing is.
