i think you would b better buying a new midpipe and going with a less expensive set of headers then buying the slp headers. i have bbk shorty headers on my slp x pipe and they work fine but slp r the only long tubes that will fit the slp x pipe

BBK must be real hit or miss as far as quality goes. I have about a half dozen friends (myself included) running BBK headers and mid pipes, and not one of us has had problems. My one buddy has had their long tubes and x pipe on for almost 5 years now, and they've been trouble free.

I tried to use an slp catted x on my pypes when i first got em... it dosnt work. SLP is gay and only lets you use slp headers..unless u cut the xpipe to fit.

You can use any shortie header you want. Thats what we where trying to say. If you go long tube headers you have to buy SLP or get some custom made.

Yeah, my SLP setup came with the downpipe to adapt shorties to the X, then you would remove the downpipe to install their LTs. Too bad SLP's prices are so high compared to the other mainstream suppliers. I still kick myself in the butt for purchasing what an exhaust shop could have made for me with half the money. Oh, well...was in the desert buying up crap for my car. Naivety, I guess. I'm actually considering construction of a side-exit off of my X now...maybe fab something makeshift to see how I like it/the sound. May be too much, though...will have to see. I Dynamatted my whole trunk for the subs and found it helps a LOT with the interior resonance of rear-exit exhaust and muffler deletes, heh. Not that I minded, but if you ever do that on the highway, you end up yelling to hear one another in the car at about 70 mph, heh. Oh, and the exhaust note will find EVERYTHING capable of rattling on the car...such as o2 sensor extension connectors not properly tied up, heh.

Heres the thing I like about the X-pipe if you want to go catted you can. It takes about 20-30 minutes to change out. The reason the X is so much is because you can change because it two X-pipes in one.

True...and a 20-30 minute change is nice, but I will not go O/R X again until I get tuned...WAAAAAAYYY too rich. How do I know this? All the popping, noxious fumes, soot on my exhaust tips like crazy, and oil smells like fuel after about 2 weeks of daily driving. The thing was CRAZY loud (was cool for a little while until I almost deafened myself passing someone while my windows were down) but I don't need any damage to my car from thinning out the oil; no thanks. Tune not required, but HIGHLY suggested. Sound? See for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sTLE4uklYo

Keep in mind that this is INSIDE the car at the beginning...you will hear this much normally OUTSIDE the car, so unless you've heard this in person and/or KNOW you like loud, I wouldn't suggest it.

Post I know this thread is old but this is some good info here ...

For some people like me who searched for what header to use with the slp catted x pipe and came upon this thread, this could be helpful to you before you sell your slp to get a matching shorty pipe with the brand of long tubes you are getting. I went with MAC Headers due to the fact that they are the only reputable brand that doesnt have any clearance issues in the 600$> price range. i spent 341.53$ for the MAC TF9625 industrial chrome plated headers from brenspeed.com they were shipped to my door within 3 days. These mac headers have a two bolt ball-in-flange style collector. MAC sells something called a universal DIY exhaust starter tube kit or flows. on macmidwest.com part#MAC-SK25 for 29.99$ +8$ shipping. theyare made to fit these headers perfectly. after you got it all installed take it to a muffler shop and for ~20$ you get the two starter tubes welded onto your X pipe.
Mine fit perfectly fine, but after this i will never go with slp FOR MIDPIPES again cause i spent over a month researching this and have been told that what i had in mind will not work about fifty or so times...
BTW for mufflers i got SLP LM2's , and as for sound i couldnt be happier. I have got nothing but positive compliments on how my mustang sounds
