Default V6 Dual Exhaust Help

I have always referenced to this forum for cool Mods for my mustang and I decided I want to Put a true Dual Exhaust on my pony. I am mostly looking for a louder, throatier sound while still improving performance. I have a couple of questions.

I know there are a lot of Kits out there designed for the V6, but is the only real difference between the V6 Dual Exhaust and the GT Dual an X pipe?

If I were to buy the Magnaflow 'Magnapack' Catback System (05-09 GT), would it fit on to my V6 if I only bought an X pipe?

And if so, would it make a real difference if I bought the GT exhaust and an X pipe compared to buying a V6 Exhaust?

I've been researching this for a while and I am still having difficulties picking that perfect exhaust. All comments and suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

No, you would need and x and mids that are designed for the sixers. then you could throw on any set of mufflers that you would want that work with a GT. The GT's have a completely different exhaust setup.

I know I have to cut out the Y pipe to turn it into a dual exhaust.

but your saying it would be difficult to put this Dual exhaust on my V6

Do a search, as this question gets asked all the time.
The exhaust systems are not that different. Both systems have cats near the manifolds, dual pipes under the car back to where they come together, and that's where they are most different. The v6 of course, both pipes go together into a Y and then out a single pipe and muffler. The GT, both sides come close and connect via an H stock, then dual pipes and mufflers out.
You can use a gt takeoff system from past the H or x back, but you have to put the crossover (h or x) on your v6 setup. You do this by cutting out the Y pipe and making appropriate connection to the H or X. Also, the v6 piping at that pint is 2.25" in diameter, while gt pipes are 2.5". Not a big deal if welding it all up there.

From the H or X, the gt system can be bolted into the v6, simply by adding the 2 muffler hangers on the v6 on the driver side and cutting out the bumper cover for a hole for the pipe (to match the passenger side), or put on a gt bumper.

With a properly installed and located x or h, any gt catback system can be used.

I've posted pics in previous posts, too. So the search is your friend

^+1 easy as that. Don't buy that Magnaflow set-up. If you look at it, it doesn't have a true cross-over pipe, just a Y pipe up at the top. Your better off buying an X or H (or having a shop fabricate an H for you) then putting on midpipes and mufflers of your choice. I had a shop fabricate an H, install one of their midpipes on the drivers side, and install a my driver's side muffler. All came out to $170

You can also buy the Pypes X pipe designed for the V6 for about $100 and then you caN use any GTset-up you like.

So, if I just buy an X pipe made for the V6 and cut the Y pipe to make a true dual, I can simply buy a GT setup and attach it to the X pipe? What setup do you think will give me the best sound and performance? I am looking more for the sound. and what is the real difference between an X pipe / H pipe and a prochamber? Thank you for all of the responses!!

You may need to get mid pipes that work with the X you buy. I bought the whole kit from pypes when I got mine. Once you have the mids in place you can put whatever muffler on you want. Someone will chime in about the GT mid pipes but i don't think it will work.

alright so this is similar to my problem. I currently have the Ford Racing X pipe cut into my y pipe...sounds good but i wanted the deeper sound from the highflow cats which i can't put on my car i believe because the kit is only made for a gt and won't fit mine So I am not sure which way to go but i'd say go with the actual cats and xpipe....much cheaper (cost $400 to get the xpipe put in
