just got my car 3 weeks ago and the brakes have been squealing ever since. all pads and rotors are new. i'm getting a metallic squeal at all speeds, brakes on, brakes off doesn't matter.

took all the wheels off today and cleaned all the rotors , put the wheels back on and still the sound is still there.

i found the passenger front side heat shield hanging by a thread and basically just yanked it off. the heatshield was not the problem. althouth it might have been rattling i could not hear it.

i am wondering what my next step should be? what about that grease they sell at the auto parts stores, the stop squealing grease. if i use that where do i apply it?

i am 100 percent sure this is a pad-or rotor issue, just not sure what process will correct it!

i had a thought that when i put the brakes on and then release them the pads are still contacting the rotor more than normal, but this sound is on all the time!

 

If you got metallic pads they will squeal to a degree when the brakes are applied, they shouldn't when released, so I don't know if this could be your problem.

no they are squealing at all times regardless if the brakes are depressed or not, from zero mph to say 40 after that i can't hear anything.

 

You check the slide pins on the calipers? One of mine was frozen solid and it was causing a sound like that.

 

not yet. i think i'm going to yank everything off this weekend and lube the pins and apply some pad lube. i think at the dealer they just slapped everything together and didn't pay any attention to lubing anything. this car wasn't making this sound when i test drove it 4 times, oh well.

since i ripped the one heatshield off, how much do they cost? i need a new one of those and some rivets to put it back on.

 

the slide pins caused me major problems, not just with noise but one froze up with rust and melted my rotor down. so when you check those, make sure they arent rusty and lube them up good

 

Yeah, same thing with me, had to change the rotor. I had to take a freaking blow torch to mine to break it loose. I used a giant pair of channel locks to spin it after I got the housing hot enough to catch the rubber boot on fire. Suckers can be a major pain in the ***.

 

I had the brakes changed and the shop didn't lube the rear slide pins. One side froze up so bad I couldn't even free it with a hammer. I had to buy a new bracket for that side.
