Advice on first visit to the track?
I'm hoping to get one or two runs in before the year is over. I have never been to the strip before but I want to go to get a good number of what my car will do before and after some new mods. Not looking for criticizing, I know its not fast hoping for mid to low 16's as its my first time. So I am looking for some advice, maybe what to set my tire psi at or something. ****ty tires, running fuzion hri's running low on tread on stock 16's but I'm really not sure. Just looking for some advice on what to do, and some ideas of what you guys think I might run/trap so I know what to shoot for. Mods are in my sig. Thanks. It will be at New England Dragway btw.
If you've never raced at the drag strip before, I would advise just making sure you don't do anything stupid. Honestly, just worry about yourself and the car. You probably don't need to use the burnout box, especially with worn out radial tires- so you can drive around it. If you drive the car to the track- there should already be some heat in them anyway.
Before your second pass- you can start playing with air pressure. As a GENERAL rule, lowering the air pressure increases grip while upping it does the opposite. I used to air up my fronts 4-6 psi (less rolling resistance) and air down my rears 6-8 psi (better traction). Pressures depend on several factors but lowering them from your normal psi should give you slightly better off-the-line traction.
Also, depending on how much time you have between runs- you can open up your hood and/or ice down the intake for a small gain.

run the MAX tire PSi on the sidewall in the front tires, rears at 30 psi, drive AROUND the burnout box, (there is no need for you to go near it without DRs, and dont track water down the track (turn off AC to)) stall the car to about ~1000 rpms, leave on the last yellow. i had similar mods but but with LTs and was running high 15s
Reaction times doesn't matter. You can sit there for 10 seconds after the green, although I don't recommend it, and it still will not affect your time in a test and tune scenario.
My only WOW, words of wisdom for the lamen, don't wreck.

The best advice for someone who's never been there is to watch other people run for a while first, so that you get a good idea of what to do. Staging can be especially confusing. I think there's a sticky in this forum for you to read.
Yeah I did have to watch others but I had a good idea what I was doing. Either way my best run was 16.1 at 86mph with a 2.3 60'. It was a great time, really enjoyed it. Can't wait to go back after my 8.8 and 4.10 swap. But that was the last open night for the season.
