Default Supercharger Pulley size question?

Im wondering, for all of you running vortech kits, which pulley gives what psi? im looking at pulleys and vortech says each decrease/increase in pulley size is equal to 1-2 psi but never says what you get. so i am getting a V1 with s trim and want to run about 10 to 12 psi but have no clue which pulley will get me that.

thanks for the help yet again, im poppin my supercharger cherry here this week!!!

no one can give you an exact answer because every setup is different. the better flowing the motor is, the lower the boost will be with the same size pulley. fwiw, i ran the same sc for a while and had 2.95 pulley (iirc) and it made 11psi with a power pipe. best thing to do is put the sc on, do a few pulls, see what boost you hit and then adjust pulley size from there

Just get a powerpipe and a 3.48" pulley..........that should be close unless you have more mods (ie. ported heads, longtubes, intake, etc.)

Later,

I agree, its hard to say without knowing your setup. There are many factors (longtubes? cams? intercooled?) I run an SQ trim, blower cams, 4" powerpipe, longtubes, and i run a 3.12 pulley and see about 11psi

pounds of boost is just a measurement of the restriction between the blower and your combustion chambers. SO like said, it is impossible to say that X pulley gives Y amount of boost.

for instance. your car is bone stock with just the supercharger and a 3inch pulley. you may see 10 pounds of boost because your heads are restrictive and not as much of the pressurized air can enter your cylinders when the valves open. now say john doe's car has ported heads and cams. he is running a 3inch pulley also but only has 7 pounds of boost because more air gets into the cylinders each time the valves open than on your car. but that doesnt mean he has less horsepower than you just because his boost PSI is lower than yours either.

better question is how much HP do you want to run and what r ur current mods? that will give people a better idea on what pulley you will want.

thanks for all the info so far. im going to put in cams, long tubes and I'm thinking about intercooling it and leave it at that. I want to get to the 400hp/tq range on the ground and thats pretty much it, well, if its possible.

thanks as always

its very possible and u dont need to waste money on cams to do it.

get longtubes first. then get an intercooled vortech kit and you will be near 400hp. its not wise to get all this **** seperately or a month or 2 down the road. you will have to re-dyno tune everytime you mod once the blower is on. so get your boltons done first then get a blower and a good tune and youll be done and at your power goal.

ya im gonna collect all the parts and then put them all on at once and have a shop here in vegas do the tune. Do the cams add all that much power or pull for the 5 to 6 hundred bux? or not really worth the headache and money?

cams are good for a good amount of power especially when u have a blower. are you aware that 400rwhp is the max limit you want to go to on a stock 4.6? the rods are only rated for 450 crank hp.

so since you can get near 400whp without cams, no need to waste the money (and its more than 5-600 bucks). to do cams if u dont do the labor expect a few hundred on that. you will need to replace valve springs so thats another 250 or so. etc...

You can pick up pulley's for about 60-80 bucks - buying 2 pulley's so you have them to switch out during the pulls isnt to expensive and its worth it. Besides you can probably return them if you dont use them.
